Landour Sunset walk View Points

Sunset can be witnessed from many places around Landour, but there are two best points: one is just 200 meters from Lal Tibba Viewpoint on the southwest side, and another is 200 meters before Sister Bazaar on the southeast side.

How to Reach

Reaching the starting point, Char Dukan, for the Landour sunset walk is a 20-minute (5 km) drive from Mussoorie Mall Road. However, on weekends or holidays, it can be a bit challenging and time-consuming (20 minutes to 2 hours), especially in the afternoon when it becomes crowded and traffic increases. On weekends, this activity is not recommended unless you choose to walk from your accommodation or from Mullingar, as the road becomes too narrow after Landour Bazaar.

If you’re staying at properties like La-Villa Bethany, Rokeby Manor, Lights of Landour, Ivy Bank, Doma’s Inn, there’s no need to worry about reaching the spot, as these properties offer a sunset view from the window only. If you are coming from outside Landour, it’s advisable to allocate extra time or simply walk up to Char Dukan.

The Landour sunset walk, also known as the Chakkar walk, goes in a circle around the Landour ridge. Landour ridge is nestled on one of the highest points in Mussoorie, making it one of the best places to witness the sunset, similar to Gorge Everest, Cloud’s End, Jwala Devi Temple, Bhadraj Temple, Jabarkhet Nature Reserve, Tipridhar (Kaflani), and Jharipani.

Winters in Mussoorie offer the best sunsets, as they are underlined by the mighty winterline, making it one of the best winter sunsets in India. Landour Sunset walk begins at Char Dukan and proceeds towards the Language School, another junction point. To reach the sunset point Lal Tibba, it’s better to go via the Northern face of Landour as you’ll enjoy the forested route with mountain views. From this part, you can also see views of snow-covered mountains of Garhwal Himalayas often with pink hues, depending on the visibility of the day. This scenic route with beautiful Deodar forest will make this experience much rewarding, After a kilometre of walking, you’ll reach Lal Tibba to witness the sunset. You can either go to the top of Lal Tibba café or walk another 200 meters, taking a left turn to the sunset point, and witness the crimson sun setting just behind the Mussoorie town. Many times in the monsoon, it looks like diving into golden clouds, as in the picture. After enjoying the sunset, you can continue walking towards Char Dukan, which is a great place to enjoy some snacks and coffee at one of the cafés. This part of Mussoorie has now become very crowded, especially on weekends/holidays, as it attracts many tourists.
